The bean e:cperirnents in 1931 were conducted ln the same way and on practically
the sane land and the salne kind of soil as in prevlous years. The land was plowed
durlng the first week in Apr{.l to a depth of 8 i.nches. Although there was consj.d-erable
rai.n before plantirrg, there was not enough molsture in the soil to insure
perfect gernrination. The follorrir.g are the dates of rainfall and a,nounts in inch-es:

The land was irrigated on June 4, in order 't 16, .67 " 14,
to have the soil in good moisture condition for tt I7r .50 tt lft
the planting of the ieed,. The beans were plantedfr 18, .60 " 16,
on Jrrne I0, in rpvns 22 inches apart. One secti-on'r 19, .35 11 17r
vras planted at the rate of 20 pounds to the acrertt Jll 1.02
another at the rate of 3O pounds, md another at
40 pounds. The seed rvas germinatlng by June 16. The heavy rain of that date
produced a good germination on aII the dry plots. The field rryas cultivated on
June }p, JuIy I4r and 22. The plots receiving few irrigaiions were harvested by
September 15, while those receivi-ng more irrigations renaj-ned green longer and
were hanrested a little le.ter. The following table gives the dates of irrigation,
the amor.rnt of seed planted per aere, and the actual and eomputed yields:
