DWAYNE DISNEY WINS POT 0 ' GOLD PRODOCTION CONTEST Dwayne Disney September, 1961 Sir Sparkling Vic , a senior yearling Jersey heifer, set a new state class record for New Mexico on ROM test . Her record at one year 9 montha of age was 9 , 755 I bs . milk and 518 lbs. fat in 305 days 00 twice daily milking . The mature equivalent was 13.267 Ibs. milk and 704 Ibs . fat. She was recently classified Very Good. Dwayne Disney, Roosevelt County 4-H and FFA member, purchased "Vic" in the 1958 Pot D' Gold Heifer sale for $625. She was consigned by Henry Uihlein, Heaven Hill Farm, Lake Placid, N.Y . She was sired by the Excellent , Silver Medal , Senior Superior Sire, Sparkling Standard Play Boy. His 31 tea ted daughters average 9,932 Ibs. milk and 516 Ibs. fat. The dam of ''Vic'' was Bl onde Lad ' s Patrice, Excellent with five records over 400 l bs. fat. Dwayne, son of Mr. & Mrs. Owen Disney, Jersey breed-ers of Portales, has previously won many honors on his Jersey herd. He hss exhibited his Jerseys at the Roosevelt County Fair and New Me,.. ico State Fair. He graduated from Portales High School in May. 1961. At the present time, he is a freshman at New Mexico State University. He plans to major i n veterinary science . He plans to attend the All-American Youth Day at Columbus, 0., October 14, to receive the award of a check for $1,437.50. The runner-up was Beacon Sure Thing, owned by Steve Bachelor. Angola. Ind. Her r ecord was 9,553 lbs. milk and 515 lbs. fat .

Description | The monthly report of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) was initiated by E.E. Anderson, Extension Dairyman in the 1940s. From the 1960s forward a cooperative report had been prepared jointly by staff members of the NMSU Dairy Department, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Veterinary and sent primarily to dairy herds on test (OS, DHIA, DHIR), County Extension Agents, and Instructors of Vocational Agriculture. The publication of the DHIA report was overseen by Philip Leyendecker, a director of the NMSU Agricultural Extension Service in cooperation with U.S. Department of Agriculture. The title of the report had changed over time; it had a couple of variations, New Mexico Dairy Herd Improvement and Dairy Improvement Notes. This digital collection includes historical issues published between 1961 and 1980. |
