• • MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY July 27, 1996 The Board of Regents of New Mexico State University met at the Los Olmos Guest Ranch in Glenwood, New Mexico, on July 27, 1996. Vice President Jack Butt called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Roll call was taken and those board members present at the meeting were Vice President Butt, Secretary-Treasurer McDonald, President Emeritus Faubion, Regent Sheffield and Ex officio Regent Kelly Neville. President Perez and Dr. Eastman were unable to attend. President Orenduff and Executive Vice President Conroy represented the administration. The media was represented by Julyne Derrick of the ~ Cruces Sun-News . President Orenduff welcomed all persons in attendance and briefly outlined some of the exciting developments at NMSU during the past year, mentioning items such as the rust student regent, a new president, and the changing economic climate in the region. He announced that the theme of the weekend was "strategic planning." He reported on the recent retreats of both the Deans Council and Administrative Council. President Orenduff announced the appointment of a committee to analyze the best process in which to undertake and initiate the University's strategic planning efforts. The committee will also evaluate the best methods to obtain input and support from University personnel and members of the Las Cruces community. Lastly, President Orenduff stated that the purpose of this retreat was to challenge the Board of Regents to proyide direction to the University administration. Therefore, the goal of the Board of Regents is to focus on defining the perimeters of the upcoming strategic plan.
