1. CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Regents of New Mexico State University met in the Regents Room of the
Educational Services Center on the New Mexico State University main campus in Las Cruces,
New Mexico, on Friday, May 12, 2006. President Anaya called the meeting to order at 1 :32
p.m.

(a) Ms. Maureen Howard stated, "It is my pleasure this afternoon to start by introducing
Dolores Connor with the City Council who is with us this afternoon. We also have two
members of the press with us. We have Dolores Bernal with the Las Cruces Sun-News
and Michael Sears from KRWG-FM."
(b) Associate Provost DeNecochea stated, "I am delighted to introduce the incoming
leadership of ASNMSU. Standing beside me is Benjamin J. Hardy. He is a junior
maj oring in Environmental and Occupational Health with a career obj ective in real estate
and law. Born in Germany, Ben spent his formative years in Alamogordo where he was
actively involved in student governance, a pursuit that he continued upon enrolling at
NMSU as a Crimson Scholar. He has served as an NMSU Senator for the College of
Health and Social Services for the past year, during which time he also served on the
