Dear Professor Tombaugh:
It is my pleasure to officially inform you, although I am sure
you have read about this action in the paper, that the Board of
Regents of New Mexico State University voted unanimously to
name the Campus Observatory the "Clyde W. Tombaugh Observatory"
and the 12-inch reflecting telescope in the southernmost of the
observatory's three domes, the "Clyde W. Tombaugh Telescope".
This action was based upon recommendations from the Astronomical
Society of Las Cruces and the Department of Astronomy at New
Mexico State University, and approved through various administrative ■
channels.
I am asking the Department of Astronomy and the Astronomical Society
of Las Cruces to plan an appropriate ceremony in recognition of this
action, preferably at a time when one or more Board members can
participate in the activity.
Congratulations again for this recognition and the continued thanks
of. New Mexico State University for your dedicated services to this
