Dear Dr. Tombaugh:
By way of introduction, you may recall that I was the planetarium operator
for the El Paso Schools when the Las Cruces Amateur Astronomical Society
visited the facility in the spring of 1969.
As the chairman for the annual meeting of the Southwestern Association of
Planetariums I am charged with the responsibility of securing a guest
speaker for our meeting to be held on Saturday, January 23, 1971, in El
Paso at 10:00 a.m.
For your information S. W. A. P. is a regional organization of about fifty
members interested in Planetarium Education. As such, most members are
operators of planetariums such as myself and lack formal training in Astronomy.
Most have been science teachers in public school systems throughout the southwestern states but who have volunteered to work in planetarium education.
In other words we all seek first hand information relative to astronomical
research.
If you would consider speaking for about one hour to a group of about thirty
such people on any astronomical topic of your choice, will you please advise
me as to the amount of your fee. If you should not be able to consider our
request, could you recommend another astronomer from your department who could
substitute for you.
Thank you kindly for your attention to this request.
Sincerely,
Z^ScJ^
