The Department of Astronomy, New Mexico State University
i pleased to announce a meeting commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the
Discovery of Pluto and honoring Professor Clyde H. Tombaugh
You are cordially invited to attend a meeting emphasizing current
research about Pluto and historical events associated with its discovery.
The meeting will begin with a reception at the Holiday Inn of Las Cruces
on Sunday evening 17 February 1980 followed on Monday 18 February by
morning and afternoon paper sessions at the New Mexico State University
campus and a banquet in the evening at the Holiday Inn. Paper sessions
will continue through Tuesday 19 February.
The discovery was an exciting event, and current developments in
planetary research include Pluto with its newly discovered satellite.
We hope that the meeting will offer an opportunity to astronomers to
exchange information on current research. We also will enjoy a celebration of the golden anniversary of Pluto's discovery. The New Mexico
State University and Las Cruces communities will take special pride in
honoring Professor Clyde W. Tombaugh.
If you are interested in presenting a paper please send a title to
the above address before 15 December 1979 and an abstract before
15 January 1980. Current plans are that proceedings will be published
in Icarus.
Details on transportation and lodging will be sent to you in a later
mailing which will include registration forms.
