Dear Friend:
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the
planet Pluto by Las Cruces' own Clyde Tombaugh. The Astronomy
Department at NMSU and the Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce would like
to honor Professor Tombaugh with a banquet on his behalf. This dinner
will be held at the Las Cruces Hilton hotel on Friday, April 20th.
Cocktails will begin with a no-host bar at 6:00 pm and dinner will be
served at 7:00 pm. We invite you to attend this special event and
meet one of our nation's living legends.
Following the dinner, Professor Tombaugh will relate the very
interesting story of how a Kansas farm boy came to find the outermost
planet in the solar system. This exciting tale of dedication and
discovery will be illustrated with slides from Professor Tombaugh's
impressive collection. We think that you will thoroughly enjoy the
wit and wisdom of one of America's foremost scientists.
In addition, a large poster
Professor Tombaugh's discovery '
will be autographed by Professo:
The cost of this dinner and talk is $25.00 for adults and $15.00
for children under 15. The proceeds will go to the Tombaugh Scholars
Fund at New Mexico State University.
We hope that you will be able to join us for this very special
occasion. If so, please return the enclosed form with your payment.
If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to call the
Astronomy Department at 646-4438. We look forward to seeing you on
April 2 0th. Thank-you for your interest.
Sincerely yours, Sincerely yours,
Jack 0. Burns Clark Morrow
