Historically, the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts provided the local news media with prepackaged information about current developments in the college’s teaching, research and service. As mentioned by NMSU past President Gerald W. Thomas in his book Academic Ecosystem (1998), the relationships with the media had always been a serious concern for college administrators: How to ensure the freedom of the press while making sure all reporters have a sense of responsibility. How to build an effective partnership between campus and the media.

This digital collection features a selection of print news releases distributed by the university information service to local and world-wide media agencies from 1958 to 1974. New items are added on a weekly basis. In the mid-nineties the service changed the name to University Communications. Presently, they are called NMSU Marketing and Communications which includes the News Center. The news reports run the gamut from students, faculty, staff to daily campus events, curricula, programs, research, lectures, initiatives, public service activities, celebrations, and everything else that could be of interest to the public at large. This collection provides a unique view into a colorful history of this Southwestern pioneering educational institution. Enjoy the Aggie experience!
