Dear Mr. Tombaugh.
Many thanks for your interesting thoughtful report of 10’’ to have. I hope you will still continue to observe the moon in any other section you like and send me your results in due course. In looking through your report, I have made the following marginal notes which you would no doubt like to read. Bianchini. The central group of elevations probably the remains of a crater ring? Harpalus. Your report is quite correct as regards the 2 peaks. I think however you will find another smaller one as a crater with them, here again originally there may have been a Sentra Crater. Harpalus P. I think your will find a light spot near center probably a look peak to crater.Bianchini P. I think this is two indefinite in character to be reckoned as a crater ring it seems to me more like an irregular spoon shaped depression. Low Crater ring [illegible] of Bianchini P. I regard as being too [illegible] inch, to calls as a crater formation. J. Herschel. My snap is unfortunately not [crossed out] does not represent the real character of the formation—the object really consists of 3 [illegible] ring plains- more like this [there is a drawing of the plains] none of which have central peaks. Harpalus F. Craters of the class are so small that they require the longest telescope to show central peaks if any.
Contains documents from Tombaugh's tenure on the Observatory staff, 1929-1945, as well as a small amount of material relating to later projects that Tombaugh worked on at Lowell Observatory in the 1950s.
