Dear Dr. Tombaugh:
You have been recommended for membership in The New York Academy of
Sciences. The Board of Governors, therefore, cordially invites you
to join the Academy's nearly 28,000 members, who represent every
field of science in all fifty states and in 94 foreign countries.
To you, as a member, the Academy offers a direct line of communication
with your own and all other scientific fields. You may suggest and
organize one or more of the Academy's approximately 20 international
conferences each year, which bring together the leaders in a specific
area of scientific investigation. You may attend all conferences at
no cost. You will annually receive, free, six current issues of the
Annals which contain the proceedings of these conferences. Previous
issues of the Annals may be purchased by members at a 20 percent
discount.
You will be regularly notified of monthly meetings of all of the
Academy's 19 Sections (see over), all of which you may attend. In
addition you will receive the Transactions of The New York Academy
of Sciences, published monthly from November to June, which contains
papers delivered at the monthly meetings and other information of
interest to members.
Finally, you will receive The Sciences, the Academy's interdisciplinary
magazine that reports on the diverse areas in science for scientists,
students and the public.
I look forward with pleasure to the possibility of presenting your
application to the Board of Governors and to working with and serving
you. Please call or write to me personally if you would like any
further information about the Academy.
