BOARD OF REGENTS APPROVES BUILDING NEW LIBRARY
There is one important aspect of the library on which we wish to report
to the University community. In May 1987 Aaron Cohen Associates was
retained as project consultant to undertake a library building
feasibility study in conjunction with the 1987 state appropriation of
$75,000. The major purpose of the study is to articulate a long range
master plan for improving campus library facilities at NMSU.
The University administration has made the library its number one
capital improvement project. The NMSU Board of Regents at its July
meeting approved the recommendation and plan that calls for the design
of a 260,000 gross square foot library building to be placed at the east
end of Frenger Street (McFie Circle parking lot). It is proposed that
the new library be constructed in two phases. In the first phase
130,000 gross square feet will be constructed and several years hence a
second phase of another 130,000 gross square feet will be added. Also
