Dear Sir:
The Physical Science Laboratory of this college, is interested in
knowing what projects have been planned for the observation of the total
solar eclipse in the Pacific on October 12, 1958. We are especially interested in the possibilities of greater extensions and also ultra-violet light
photographs of the corona taken from rockets fired within the strip of
totality. Are such projects planned and in preparation?
Also, we are interested in possible photographic searches for
intra-Mercurial planets from the ground within the strip of totality from
two widely separated stations. Could you tell us what parties expect to
operate within that area on October 12th, and whether any similar project
is planned?
Thank you for any such information you can give us.
Sincerely yours,
TOMBAUGH
